Suspect in Zimin`s murder identified by mobile call
Investigative group working on case of NTV journalist Ilya Zimin murder has established accident picture.
The suspect in the reporter`s murder- Moldavian citizen Igor Velchev - gave himself away by calling on the mobile phone stolen from NTV correspondent.
Velchev and Zimin got acquainted on the street and drank alcohol in journalist flat afterwards. New friends started fight because of disagreements in future plans.
By tentative data, Moldavian had no intention to kill Zimin but lost his temper as he found out about journalist plans for the rest of the night and beat him to death.
Velchev took mobile phone, laptop and money from Zimin`s flat. Investigators established that he didn`t search the flat thoroughly.
The suspect returned home to near-Moscow village Gorky in the morning, bid firewall to relatives and left to unknown direction. At the same moment he made several telephone calls from Zimin`s mobile phone. Officers of the criminal investigation department state that detention of the suspect is the matter of several days because Velchev is put on the wanted list in Russia and Moldavia.
